Carlstadt - Joseph L. Runger, 71 of Carlstadt, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born in Paterson he was a resident of Carlstadt for over 60 years. Prior to retiring, Joe was a metallurgist at Howmedica in Rutherford for over 25 years. After retirement, Joe took on a part time job at the Bayonne Cruise Terminal, his job there was to meet and greet all the passengers embarking and disembarking the cruises. For over 30 years, he was a member of the Carlstadt First Presbyterian Church and was a former chief and fireman for the Carlstadt Fire Department. Additionally, he was a member of the CW Townsmen and The Hawthorne Muchachos and Caballeros. He also volunteered at the NJ Sports & Exhibition Authority BCC Observatory. In his spare time, he enjoyed astronomy and sailing.
Joe is predeceased by his parents Louis and Adela Runger. He is survived by his beloved wife Renee (nee Fairweather). Loving brother to Janice LaBarbera and her husband Rosario “Roy”. Caring Uncle to his nephew and his wife John and Lisa LaBarbera, their children Jason and Dana; and to his niece and her husband Linda and Glenn Zuber, their children Jessica, Eric and Troy.
Cremation was private, a memorial service will be held at a future date.
