Obituary for Robert F "Cowboy" Nelson

Robert F. Nelson “Cowboy”, of Lodi for the last few years and prior of Carlstadt for over 20 years, passed away on August 20, 2020. Mr. Nelson served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid during the Vietnam War. For 30 years, he was a Sales Manager at State Auto Sales in Lodi, retiring about 10 years ago. After retiring, he was a bartender at the Carlstadt American Legion Post 69 where he was a member and served as Junior Vice President. Cowboy attended different functions at various American Legion Posts in Belleville Post 105, Little Ferry Post 310, Garfield Post 415 and Newark Post 299. He was a member of the American Legion Riders and served as Past President. Cowboy had a love for horses and even owned one. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and singing karaoke. One of his famous quotes was, “A man has got to know his limitations”. Beloved father of Robert F. Nelson, Jr. and his wife Donna, Karen Y. Nelson and her companion Don Morgan, Caroline D. Smith and her fiancé Dennis Delgado and Daniel J. Nelson and his companion Lisa Chulsky. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Loving brother of Gail Swift and Albert Nelson, Jr. Close family friend of Joe Orlando and his wife Colleen and long-time companion of the late Suzanne Orlando. Cremation was private. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad Street, Carlstadt from 4-8 PM.
