Viola Immaculata Mayer (nee Santomartino), 94, of Carlstadt, passed away on April 21, 2020.

Born in Brooklyn, she was the child of Angelo and Carmela (nee D’Agastino) Santomartino, and the last surviving member of her eight siblings. Viola was married to Santo Guercio, who passed away in 1983, with whom she had seven children: Amy, Michael, Clem, Mary Ann, Santo, Karen, and John.

In 1984, Viola married Eugene Mayer. Together, they traveled across the United States, often with their grandchildren in tow, but they always called the town of Carlstadt home. Viola enjoyed arts and crafts, James Paterson novels, and card games, such as hand-and-foot. Above all, she loved to spend time with her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Viola served as the President of the Carlstadt Senior Citizens for two years.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Mayer, and her children and their spouses: Amy Krapf, Michael and Susan Guercio, Clem Guercio, Mary Ann and Ed Falko, Santo and Linda Guercio, Karen and Michael Dolinsky, and John and Denise Guercio. Viola also had seventeen grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, and three step-children. She is predeceased by daughters-in-law Sandra Guercio, Maria Elena Guercio, son-in-law Jack Krapf, and her grandson, Salvatore Coladonato IV.

In lieu of flowers, her family would kindly appreciate memorial donations be made in Viola’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
